Yep, 30 degrees and a little moisture here and the whole world closes down until the thaw. I'm not joking at all, either! People around here drive like yahoos when it rains or gets icy (6 whole days a year if we're lucky!) and there are wrecks everywhere. It's crazy, but I always know when it starts raining to just wait a few minutes and the sirens will start. DH is in the habit of putting his boots on to be ready for a call with the first few drops.

I hear you about drivers freaking out when it even looks like snow or ice. The first year there we didn't have school because the was snow falling just a bit, and Mom asked to to drive to the store to pick up some milk and something for supper(forget now, it was too long ago.) but here I am a 14 year old kid who grew up in snow and ice, no drivers license and I didn't even think twice about hopping in the car and going downtown to the store. When I got there, it looked like looters had cleared the place out, not a loaf of bread, or drop of milk in the whole place. The shelves were about bare. I didn't have a bit of problem driving down there, but saw more cars in the ditch and fender benders than I had ever seen at one time. I went home and told Mom she was on her own from then on to go to the store when it was snowing because I didn't want somebody else running into me.

Actually I noticed you posted he grew up 15 to 30 (miles I would assume, you failed to mention what measurement) North of Caribou, which would put him around New Sweden or Stockholm area. My backyard in other words. In the last 20 years I haven't seen many winters that were "one of a kind" at all. In fact I graduated from the upper Peninsula of Michigan and can tell you for sure the winters here are a lot warmer with less snow than we got there. Only seen snow at Halloween once in the last 20 years here. Sure it gets cold, but nothing earth shaking or newsworthy.

yes you're correct New Sweden. My husband moved out 8 years ago, and I know winters are getting more mild, but I've seen the pics , and home videos and the poor kiddies have snow suits on under their costumes, and sure enough there's snow in the videos. I can't imagine trick or treating in snow, but thats northern maine for ya

We've trick or treated 2x in the snow since my 18 year old was born! Oh, and we've always lived in southwest Ohio.

guess snow around Halloween is much more likely to happen in Ohio than in Maine!! I've seen it the one time, and Byand's seen it---once! It was probably the same weather system!
Tara, they must have taken a lot of pics that ONE year!

Elacrim,
That would be the "cold front" moving in ...course that might only be up north in DFW...
I heard we might be under 90 all week. Still too hot to take the dog for a quick drive to the store.

me too... tho here in NC mid-high 80s and humid is typical for this time of year... we it gets "around 80" humid or not, I breathe a sigh of relief! LOL And am thankful when the evening temps fall somewhere in the 70s.
I have Bangor's weather bookmarked in Weather Underground and it has been looking delightful since spring. It seems that when there are high temps there, they don't last long and mostly even the evenings are cool. I can deal with that!

Yes, but the only way we "get" to be in the upper 80s this week is if it rains all week long. *sigh* That only means that we can't finish the outside of the house this week. That's ok, though. I'm sure we'll be back in the 90s with lots of sunshine next week!
