HUGE canine tracks seen hunting
While deer hunting yesterday I came accross a set of large buck tracks and mixed in was a set of canine tracks. They were huge. I compared them to my Golden 's tracks and they were easily at least twice the size and he is around 90 pounds! I've heard rumors about wolves making a comeback in Maine......anybody seen tracks such as these? I don't think they were coyotes. Just too big.
Also it was just one animal. Don't coyotes pack hunt?

Our last husky weighed around 125, she had some pretty big paw tracks.

15 yrs ago I use to hunt up in the Abbott area, a very good friend had a camp on kingsbury stream
A long camp road often showed the tracks of many different animals, I do remember seeing some large canine tracks, passed them off as being a large coyote, however, after seeing specific coyote tracks, I often wondered if it was a wolf
If memory serves, I've also heard, of an adult bobcat being mawled in Abbott, by a cat at least twice it's size
I do believe their is an understandable reluctance to admit wolves or mountain lions are in maine- just imagined if one was officially confirmed-how long would it be before the save the wolf factions, and enviro-nazis will want to declare large tracts of maine forests and lands as "protected areas"

My husband and I saw a mountain lion crossing rt. 1 while driving in Dennysville in 1983. We waited a few days to tell anyone, feeling a little like seeing a UFO. Later we told the local game warden to answered that some big cats move down from Canada in search of game.
I always watch my back when hunting in Dennysville.

There are wolves in Canada. Someone shot a wolf in Massachusetts a couple of years ago, and I doubt it teleported there. Meaning that there are almost certainly wolves in Maine from time to time, but if there is a permanent population, no one has proved it yet.
Yes, coyotes are pack hunters. But so are wolves. Lone wolves don't usually last long in the wild. Which means that what you saw can only be one thing:
Werewolf.
So be sure to take silver bullets next time you're out there.
