Potato/potahto... I've lived in so many areas of the country I don't know WHAT to call ANYTHING any more... and even less remember what I grew up with... but that could just be old age catching up with me.

Didn't seem to be that way in Texas.
Loved that barbequed beef brisket.

And when I was a kid, all there was (for boys) were the black ones with the white stripes and the white rubber toe-caps. Choice was limited to hightops or low.

California is really big on "Tri tip" roasts. Here in the South and apparently the midwest too everybody looks at you and says "huh?" It's the top cut of sirloin (per the butcher). I find myself at Whole foods a lot because they carry "Tri Tip"!
I also notice a few slang terms. Here in NC when you like something it's "way cool" In California it's "hella cool".
West coast it's called soda, midwest it's pop. My wife insists that it's pop and I insist that it's soda. I usually prove my point at the store by looking up at the aisle signs and only once have I ever seen it say "pop", it always says soda.
Last thing, midwest apparently calls them "gym shoes" California they are tennis shoes.
Anybody know what part of the country calls them sneakers?

I grew up in new england and they were "sneakers"; I moved to Ohio and they were tennis shoes or gym shoes.
I drank "tonic" as a boy and later I drank "soda pop".
I would go to the dairy for a milk shake, or a cabinet, or a malted or an awful-awful (in Rhode Island).
I grill out, but my DP smells "Barbeque" and we sometimes go out for "Korean Barbeque" which is thinly sliced beef individually cooked over a braiser built into the center of the table and served with sauces (Bigogi) he likes it with "kumuchi" and I like the same fermented cabbage radish pickle but call it "Kim Chee".
I am wearing my "Wicked Good Store" t-shirt from Lovell Maine, as I write this note.
