I talked with the language coordinator this morning. Starting in 8th grade the students at Troy Howard can take French. They do not offer Spanish in 8th grade. 9-12 grades have a choice of French, Spanish or Latin.

What are the other norms - English, Math & Science, Government, PE - all givens.

That's great news! So is foreign language even a required subject? Thanks!

Hey, Arzachena, do you or your family in Belfast know anyone who teaches there? My mom wants to know how many service years are credited to count for their payrate when transferring in from another state.

She's still convinced she's following us up there - though I do think it's high time she cut the apron strings!

Waterville graduate here, 1978. If you were college prep level, you started with a foreign language in Jr. High and had a choice of French, Spanish or Latin. I would assume the same options are still available, but I don't know for sure.

In Hampden, and i'm sure many other towns, kids can either take Spanish or French in 7th and 8th grade. Then in high school, you can take Spanish, French, Latin, or Sign Language. And for Spanish and French, they offer AP classes, and maybe for Latin, but I'm not sure. Also, you have to have at least 2 years of a language at Hampden Academy to graduate.

Living in AZ my kids have been taught Spanish since 1st grade, I have a 4th and 2nd grader. They have picked it up very well and I think it's a bonus to learn any 2nd language but when we relocate I am afraid they will lose everything they have learned. They conduct 1/2 class in English 1/2 in Spanish so they have had a lot of exposure. I was even thinking of looking into a tutor.
