LTTT please do consider counseling.
It would appear that you have been subjected to unfair treatment or perhaps abuse.
It affected you very personally. You hold on to this hurt very dearly, and you take it as a personal insult when anyone appears to be dismissing your hurt. Which is why you are projecting this anger in every direction that you look.
Please do not take this as yet another assault on you, I do not intend it to be an assault. I have read your posts, and this is what I see.
May God bless you and keep you.

Thank you for your concern for my well being but I am fine.Again I would like anyone who is going to be uprooting their families to get a total picture of Maine good and bad. That is why I have wrote about going to these websites. I do not want them to just take my word for anything I want them to make a intelligent decision with all the in's and out's of Maine. And I have never been insulted by any of these post's everyone has a right to their opinion.Wheather it is right or wrong. God Bless you too.

I appreciate (sometimes at least) LTTT's alternative perspective. Ironically, it has reinforced my admiration of Maine and the communities there. My dad was an Eastern Airline pilot based out of Miami when I was a little kid. Miami like many FL towns was a cool place to live. Unfortunately it grew too big - and people seem to lose value en mass. I believe (actually I know) the more crowded the environment, the more stressed the people are, followed by increases in crimes and decrease in common civility. It's quite sad, and I've seen town after town disintegrate here. One reason Maine is attractive to me and my husband, is the fact that communities are smaller. I believe it's what accounts for your low crime ratings. As for LTTT having to counter all the upbeat talk from the locals in Maine - check out some of the other states websites - FL for example. The fact that most of the people from Maine reporting in this forum are overwhelmingly happy with their state can't be ignored. It's not that way for many other areas. Maybe there's something funny in the water up there that makes y'all so damn content - but I guess that's a topic for another thread.

I just went to the Ohio list and typed in my address. I have 13 within a 2.25 mile radius of my house in small town Ohio. 4 of which I apparently regularly pass on walks with my dog. Just be aware of your surroundings. I always carry my cell so that 911 will be close at hand.
As for crime in general... in California during the Manson killings, my husband lived nearby and was only a first grader. If you relly hate the crime and political corruption in Maine and think that it is so exclusive to Maine, why not just move?

I'm sure this is all a difference of opinions of "safe". I'm reading these first few posts about Portland and thinking to myself " oh my god, why am I even considering looking to move there". Then I think about where I live. There's about 3 miles separating my town (which is a very lovely town) from the City of Newark, New Jersey. Portland, Maine has 197 registered sex offenders. Newark, NJ has 416. Not to mention, we're amost squooshed on the other side by New York City, which I didn't look up on the registry but I'm sure it's astronomical. So let's see.....portland or newark???? Keep in mind that regardless of where we are getting our statistics from, these are only "registered" sex offenders, that thought doesn't make any of us feel any safer does it? You have to just be aware of your surroundings, know your neighbors, neighborhoods, your childrens' friends and we just need to teach our children street smarts and pray they listen, regardless of where we live.

Yep! Everytime he comes up with some "news flash" I go straight to my comparison resources and check out the same info in our area - spend a couple minutes snickering under my breath at him - return to my undying love for my new home state!
Hey, maybe he's using reverse psychology on all of us!

You're right, it's alcohol. We put it in after it comes out of the well.

I'm totally confused whether he/she is male/female, but I do know this - ignorance & prejudice is non-gender specific!
