I am sad to see another chain of bookstores closing. I always liked Mr. Paperback for their wide selection of magazines and greeting cards. They had stores in Bangor and Ellsworth in addition to several other places. Sorry to see more people unemployed too.

Mr. Paperback stores to close, Magazines Inc. to be sold, 120 to lose jobs — Business — Bangor Daily News — BDN Maine

....one of my favorite stores since childhood.

Oh, that's so sad! I go to the one in Belfast once in a while. That's really too bad.

People are not getting their information from books and newspapers anymore.

I saw this ad on Direct TV yesterday about getting in on the ground floor of the kiosk DVD machine business. People who buy into that don't understand that the company is trying to unload all their machines because the see what's coming. That is a business which has already had its day. People are getting their movies directly off of streaming internet, not renting them in stores and machine kiosks.

As long as the publisher keeps paying I'll keep writing for the newspaper nobody reads.

I always liked the stores. I've bought a lot of books there over the years. Must admit, I haven't bought anything for a while though.

As the government sucks more and more money out of the economy, and gas prices continue to rise, you should expect many of these sellers of "non-essential good" going down the tubes. Seen Greece lately?

I don't agree that "everyone" gets their news and information from e-books and e-news. I still buy and read books - lots of them and many people I know do the same. I am also a newspaper reader - I have been called a "newspaper" junkie. However I find that good investigative reporters are hard to come by. These publications just don't want to pay for someone with the talent and hire kids right out of college for reporters. I won't get my dvds from those red boxes. I just don't like the idea of them having my CC number.

I read a book each and every night before bed. Even if just a page or two and fall asleep. I would have a hard time doing that with my laptop. I love reading and frequented places like Mr. Paperback and other book stores whenever I was in the vicinity of one. Sorry to see them go. Reading a book seems to have become too much of hassle for many.
