Moving to Maine soon? What activities are you anxious to see/enjoy?
Me? I can't wait to see dog sled racing - in person! Can't wait to kayak, ride a snowmobile, hike the mountains and through the woods. Oh, and riding in a horse drawn carraige definitely tops the list. Can't wait to go sailing - just don't anyone let me steer! Can't wait for our first community put luck supper.
I saw a photo once in DownEast Magazine of some firemen skiing down a hill holding a fire hose. Can't wait to see that one!
And the county/ethnic fairs! Oh my, and the food!! Also saw pictures of "log walking" I think they called it. That will be something I'd love to see DH try! And don't they still have those log sawing competitions where two men hack away at wood with a 6 foot saw and log throwing? That would be really cool to see!
Just can't wait to get back to nature and experience the things they enjoyed in the "olden days". I think I was born 100 years too late!

Oh yeah! How could I forget the whale, dolphin, seal and puffin watching?! And I've never ice skated OR seen a live eagle, other than the eagle at the Houston Zoo. Didn't like seeing it in a cage. There was just something about the very symbol of freedom being behind bars!

Kayaking
Hiking with the dogs & walking the rocky beaches
Finding that sanctuary or nature preserve where I can enjoy a fun job (paid or not) I'm going to love it.
having a garden with lots of great flowers and fruit trees and bushes
The whale and puffin watching sounds great, I've not seen either. Put loons in that category too. We have bald eagles and dolphins here - the dolphins ride the wake from our boat - I'm glad I'll still get to enjoy them up there.
The smell of pine when you walk outside....
Horseback riding would be great too, unfortunately we don't have horses. Maybe we'll find a neighbor with a few extra horses that wants riding company, or a stable that has horses for rent?

You can eagle watch at Swan Lake in Swanville or Pitcher Pond in Lincolnville. Both 15 minutes from town. We watched 3 eagles in Calais this summer. Every time they landed we hustled to get a picture. Never got one

If I'm not mistaken, most of the Bald Eagles in captivity are there because, for one reason or another, they would not be able to survive on their own in the wild.

Activities?
Hello, Elcarim,
I was offered a great job in Bangor in July, and will be moving up to the area in just a couple weeks! I just can't wait!! It would be fun to canoe on a quiet lake, take a nice hike through Acadia, try to spot a moose (but not too closely ), and just re-aquaint myself with the lovely folks I've met so far.
I feel so blessed to have this opportunity!
I think it will probably take me the rest of my life to see all the beautiful places I've read about in Maine...

I'm not being a smartass, but is "stupid" used the same way in Maine that "wicked" is? I'm trying to figure out if I'm really confused by your post or just think I am!
I'll learn Maine Speak eventually! Until then, y'all will have just have to tolerate me!!

I can't wait to see a fresh snow - that actually sticks! I've never seen a fresh blanket of snow. I can imagine the beauty! I'm the crazy woman who stands out in the middle of the yard when it rains just to feel the cool water splashing on my face. Love it! I'll be the same crazy woman standing in the middle of the yard collecting snow in my hair. Just don't anyone take a picture and post it on here!
