LOL El!! You always are fun. If they're old enough, you could drop them for a movie perhaps?

Well, you may hit leaf peeping season, so it might not be cheaper yet--mid October might be good though!

Check out Eastern Maine Medical Center (EMMC) and St. Joseph's Hospital. Also, Dysart's is a big trucking company in Hermon right next to Bangor. They also have a wonderful restaurant! HARTT/HAART trucking is also in Bangor. (By the way, our house in Stetson has a 40 x 40 garage. A former owner used to work on trucks.) There is a book that has helpful suggestions of items to consider when planning a move: Steiner's Complete How to Move Handbook. How does your husband enjoy spending his time? Focus on what Maine has to offer him in those areas. We can offer suggestions.

I do not know what it could possibly be, but it does seem to me that you will find a way.

Then someone please clue me in on the trick. Property in Eastport is on the rise and couldn't even convince hubby to get some land while we were up. My argument was that if real estate keeps going the way it is, we could buy land now and sell later with enough profit to cover at least the downpayment on a house. However, my constant pragmatist is too concerned about getting the one and only through college first and that is a very difficult argument to win.

I had no problem convincing hubby to want to move to Eastport. Just kept coming to Maine for years, different places each year. Finally bought a 6 acre lot in 1996 down the Pemaquid Penninsula in MidCoast. We thought we would build our retirement home there but after 9/11, people started staying in the US for their vacations instead of going to exotic places and they "discovered" MidCoast Maine. Real estate prices went through the roof as well as building prices and we found we couldn't afford to build on our lot. We started looking further north on the coast and found Eastport. Sold our lot in 2003 and bought our 4 square house in Eastport for 35K. We remodel a room a year while we wait for hubby to retire. Back here in WV, I've been getting rid of stuff and going through boxes, closets, etc. and weeding out everything that will not make the move.
