Hampden??
What is Hampden like? Schools, housing costs, ect. I've heard it's very wealthy. Is that true?

I am interested too!
We are also moving to the Bangor area in a couple months, we'll be out there househunting next month. We currently live in the midwest - we have been told that Hampden is a great place to live but the realtor is also sending us listings in Glenburn and Hermon, any information on any of these communities would be greatly appreciated! We have a toddler and a baby and schools are important to us, we have heard great things about the Hampden schools but no info on the Hermon or Glenburn schools. Thanks!

If you use the "search" feature above,... you will find a lot of threads that have info on both Hampden, Maine and Hermon, Maine. Both are nice places.

Hampden is a very nice little town with a good mix of housing types and price ranges. The schools are excellent. My mother graduated from Hampden Academy in 1936.

Hampden is or was called Bangor's bedroom at one time, I think that price wise you would get more for your money of you looked into places like Hermon, Glenburn, & Levant areas if your looking to stay close to Bangor. I grew up in Bangor and opted to buy a house 33 miles south of it for 50k less than that area. It depends on what you want really. My aunt just moved from Hampden because it's getting so they are practically building houses on top of each other. She owned @3+ acres and they built a new subdivison next door and clear cut the trees so you could see everything the neighbors do, taxes are high as well. Maine has alot of good schools, if you opt for one of the outer towns with no high school, your kids can choose and alot of them choose John Bapts (sp) which has alot of advanced classes etc
