Default Speech therapist moving to Bar Harbor ME, possibly...

My future husband and I are thinking seriously about moving to the Bar Harbor ME or surrounding areas. I have read some of the other posts about relocating and they were very helpful. However, I have some specific questions...

I am a speech therapist (prefer to work with special needs or elementary population) and was wondering if there are any other SLPs out there who could give me a heads up on the job market in ME for speech therapists, what's good/what's not, etc.

Also, we are very interested in renovating an old farm house close to but outside of the Bar Harbor area... ANY suggestions on this would be welcome!!

THANKS

There are some very nice towns surrounding the Mount Desert Island area. It may be best to look into those (on the mainland), simply for availability and cost. The commute OFF MDI in the summer can be time consuming, so if you were to be off the Island, but nearby, you'd have the atmosphere without some of the hassle. After Labor Day, the driving improves drastically! As far as speech pathology is concerned, I'd be surprised if you had difficulty finding work.

I don't think you can pick a more beautiful area. The whole BH area is just stunning. I'll be surprised if we don't end up there eventually.

Wife is a Special Education Director and there are no unemployed speech therapists. We have a big shortage of speech pathologists. The Bar Harbor/Ellsworth area has a lot of wealthy people and the housing costs are commensurate with that. Most of the old farm houses nearby have been rehabbed already. Have you considered the area north of Bangor?
