Retiring & Looking at Rockland
The colder the better so no south for me. Small quiet towns that have homes for sale in the $150K range. Any comments or advise welcomed. I have lived in NYC, NH, Paris and Dublin and now looking for the last place for my retirement.

150k will be sufficient as long as you do not require a mansion and 40 acres. Check out some of the smaller towns along the way to Rockland ie Union, Appleton Hope, You may get more bang for your buck in those areas

Cost of Ownership for 3 Bedroom House
Where could I find out how much it costs to own a home in Maine not including the mortgage and taxes? Are there an figures for oil heat, electric or gas (propane)?

Meeting with Local folks - Best Way?
Thanks, I found out some new info from this site. Many years ago I become a resident of Henniker, NH before moving back to NYC. I know about town meetings and Select Men (or is it Persons now) and how outsiders don’t really get the answers to their questions as every one is nice up front. New Englander’s aren’t as bad as some other countries I lived in or travel to. Just takes time.
Seems you are the person to know, I have read your many threads.
We are planning are first trip to Rockland to get acquainted with the town and meet with people. Any suggestions who we should see? We are trying to keep away from real estate agents until we have a good feeling about Rockland. My wife wants to continue to teach (tutor or an adjunct at a near by college) and is the social one who will join groups and take care of the religious side.

We all have our issues, but did notice the low percentage rate for religious affiliation in Rockland. A long time ago, one of my friends, who travels the world, told me if you want to meet people go to the church social not the local bar and I don’t think he had seen the inside of a church since he was married.

I dont think Maine is very religious comapared to the south. For those who are religious in Maine, I would not call them fundamentalists. Many of them are just casual christians who go to church occationally.
