I was born in maine, I guess that makes me a mainer- I have a neighbor thats lived here for three years from away, but he's also a mainer cause he lives here- as he says, I pay enough taxes to be called whatever I want to be called

very rarely have I ever heard of anyone saying they "ain't a mainah" cause they weren't born here- except for along the coast and coastal maine is a bit different-

The first amendment to the constitution guarantees your right to be offended. I try to see to it that everyone gets to exercise that right.

If you leave Maine for just one day in your life, from then on, you'll be considered "from away". I thought everyone knew that. Plus, if you leave Maine for just that one day, then, you won't be able to get there from here. Everyone knows that.

That's what it's like to live in Maine.

We had a public hearing last week which was highly attended. A couple from Mass. who own a home in town (his family is from town but moved in the 60s) were there. A woman next to them asked what they were doing there and they said they had some questions seeing as they were a direct abutter. She told them they had no say as they weren't from here. The woman was from NY.

No local said anything along those lines and the Board let them speak and ask questions because they are property owners. Geography didn't enter into it. They pay enough in taxes to say whatever they want.

That, too, is what it's like to live in Maine. You have a voice.

If it is a middle aged mother who drives a station wagon with blacked out windows, 22 inch chrome rims and blasts the stereo while chewing gum loudly, she is from LI.

If the stereo is blasting, how can you tell if she's chewing her gum loudly?

That gum cracking thing they do reaches the same decibel level as a jet taking off.
