We will be making our own cider. We are from 'away' and new to Maine.

I am prepping the beds now, to plant an apple orchard next spring.

We already have the beds in place to grow four types of garlic, I just finished the beds, and we will be planting them soon.

We garden, farm ginseng in our forest, and raise chickens and goats. We plan on doing apples soon.

(as they take me for white) will searsport emit the same vibe as rye did in the 80's? because, as well priced and beautiful the home may be, being the darkest person in a town isn't what i strive to be.
can any native mainers offer some advice?
p.s. when i went to block island a few years ago, i felt very uncomfortable, and actually the woman whose home we stayed in made many derogatory comments about my skin coloring, as i get very dark. would this be the norm? especially in searsport?
After reading this, I have think about retirement there, my wife who is white and from Maine( I am (BLACK) after this summer being there for 8 days I did hear any derogatory comments. I have three kind of Indian, black and some other stuff. I show my wife this and then my mother- in law in Maine and she told me People are not backward and stupid like people are in the south. So i am there in a few years to finish and enjoy the beautiful NE.
