we have made pumpkin bread in cans (much like brown bread). we used cans that we opened with one of those can openers that seperate the lid without sharp edges and reused the lids to top the cans after the bread was cooled. it's a nice lil gift item, and it freezes beautifully.

I fell like Maine is more back to nature without the whole redneck factor. Just my thoughts and welcome to the boards!

Moving to Maine.. need help with areas.
Hello,
We are from Michigan. My husband just took a job on the north side of Portland. We have a 7 year old and a 2 month old and my mom lives in Paris Maine. We are wondering if anyone has any information as to what areas to look to move. We are looking for something within a half hour drive to Portland area that is maybe in a town. We are looking for something with good schools, not expensive area, not in the slums, and maybe out a little bit. can anyone help?

Hi sunn,
Congratulations on all of your good fortune, you are very lucky to be so blessed. I'd check into Gorham, Windham, Raymond and perhaps North Yarmouth. These are all within reasonable driving distance to Portland and Paris.
Best of luck and keep us posted.

Hoping to move to Maine
Hello everyone! I am hoping to move to Maine in the coming year from Delaware and wanted some feedback. I have vacationed in Maine and love it! BUT I am a little concerned about the job market. I just finished my associates in accounting last year and am almost done with my B.A.. I am currently an accountant at a small CPA firm but I'm open to other types of jobs in my field. It looks like I should live somewhere close to a city (although not in the city because I am a country girl). My sister, who is a certified X-Ray tech, will be moving with me with her 15 year old daughter. Any suggestions for good towns, close to job opportunities and good schools?

Old Town
Thanks for the suggestion! I am looking into Old Town now and it seems like a great place. The housing doesn't seem terribly expensive, which is always good.
How are the schools there? I grew up and still live in slower lower Delaware, which is mainly a farming community. When I was in high school many many many years ago, there was no violence and no one ever pushed drugs on me. Now the high school has a state policeman stationed there and my niece has known kids since elementary school that were on hard drugs. Now granted, drugs are everywhere but I'm hoping for some improvement once we move to Maine.
I am also moving my mother up with us and it is important to have doctors and hospitals near by because she goes alot.
And hopefully it won't be too hard (and I'm probably being to hopeful on this point) to find some sort of accounting work in that area. But I am not opposed to stocking shelves or being a cashier in order to live in such a wonderful state!

Our youngest graduated OTHS last week. Smaller classes, no gangs, if drugs are present they are nearly invisible and consistent of cigs / alcohol / pot.
Old Town schools are an entirely world, not at all like the schools that we experienced in Ct, Ca, Wa, or Va.
