mom2moms is on a distinguished road
Hi everyone! We are seriously considering moving from Mass to Maine. We have vacationed in Raymond for the past 3 years - and what can I say - we LOVE Maine. We have a 8yo & 5yo - so a little nervous about changing schools & school systems. How are the school systems in Maine. We are planning on settling down in Raymond specifically. I'm nervous - but excited at the same time.

Thanks,
Michele

I really varies from locale to locale. I don't know anything about Raymond schools, sorry. Do they have their own schools, or do kids bus into Lewiston?

I have a thread in the Portland forum, but I thought I'd come here for a visit! My husband and I are seriously considering moving from a small town in Ohio to the Portland area. Being from a small town we wanted something more urban, but not like NYC...and something that had lovely scenery, with good job opportunites.

We are planning on visiting in the spring for a few days and my husband is going to start researching jobs in the winter for a possible summer move! It is so exciting to think about and I can't wait to visit the area.

Smile Planning to relocate to Maine

We are planning to relocate to Maine by summer 2009. We were visiting there, but due to heavy rain we were not able to drive around as much as planned. Our choices include Yorks, Portland and Bangor.

Which are most transplant friendly? What is a current job situation (i'm in banking and my husband is currently in retail but is planning to get back to financial trading world). Also, good school system would be very important, since we have two little kids (preschool age and kindergartener). Does Bangor have any water acces (eg Lakes)?

Livefree - Bangor is on the Penobscot River and has acess for boats but isn't for swimming. We do have Pushaw Lake but for ocean you need to drive 45 minutes to an hour. There are many lakes in the area but not right in Bangor.

Thank you Newdaawn. We all love water (all 4 of us). We live about 45 min drive right now from the ocean, but living close to a lake wouldn't bother me either. Thank you for your answer!

How do people except someone who is not a native Mainer? Right now, where we are in NJ, it's all about the status and $$$. The more the better. In our case, we are renting and majority of moms will not even talk to me after they find out that we are renting. That is their first question after saying Hello -- Where do you live? and then they almost want to know your street address (I guess to know which house is yours). SO... after all that... I don't want to move to an area where people would judge me by how much money I make or if I own a house or not.

Do not worry, everybody in town will know exactly where you live, long before you meet them. You're moving in from away, after all. LOL!
