I have a better location than that!
Down by the river,
under the bridge,
inside a van,
up on blocks,
with a barrel next to it for heat.

[quote=maineguy8888;5586160] I Can't Wait to Leave Maine
I've lived in Maine my entire life (54 years) and the older I get, the less I like it. I especially hate the cold, long winters. I hate the thought of them coming more and more each year. I can retire in 3 years and look forward to moving to more moderate climate. There's nothing in Maine that interests me other than my job, again, which I can retire in 3 years. The economy is terrible; cost of living is extreme; cultural activities are minimal; welfare is rampant. Augusta is a sorry capital city. Excuse me, that's my opinion. I've lived and worked in Augusta my entire adult life. Can't wait to leave."

No denying it (even though I try every year, as winter approaches!). IT CAN GET COLD HERE! lol.......if you're wimpy, stay out of Maine. If you're not, well then make the best of it and keep your eyes on the prize (that would be spring, summer and fall!)
Augusta is such a weird town. As capitals go, it's puny. Yet the strip malls have started to take over. Plus there are hundreds (if not thousands) of BUREAUCRATS who congregate in Augusta every day, ugh!! It's not a very positive place..... I've always proposed we tow it out to sea and make it into an island.........lol

I was wondering if you could give me some information on moving to Maine. I am considering the move and wondering where some of the best places in Maine to live are. Jobs? Cost of living? Neighborhood safety?, etc. Any information would be most helpful.
Thanks

After several hours in the car I ran into a small store...they had no public restroom, but she happily offered me the employee facilities out back...they didn't even follow me back there! Call me crazy, but around here, unless you're nine months pregnant NOBODY will let you use the bathroom! So that was a surprise.
Everyone we encountered went out of their way to give directions (some were wise guys...with the "ya can't get there from heyah" line...hahaha!) or assist us. We loved the people!
We will move to Maine one day. No doubt about that. I love it there. I keep picturing the rolling hills...mist coming off the land (wow that's so pretty)...I can't get it out of my head. Someday!!!

I had the same experience a few weeks ago, while on my land hunting expedition.
Had to pee really badly, after riding down a "road" from an old abandoned rail bed. One more bump would have done me in. We stopped at a general store with a meat department, in the Skowhegan area. I asked the lady at the register, where the nearest bathroom and gas station was.
Without hesitation she said, behind the coke machine, is the bathroom, and when I come out she'd give me directions to the nearest gas station.
The entire Skowhegan area has been very welcoming to us. Everytime we stopped to ask directions, or where a property was, everyone was friendly and helpful.
Very unlike MA, where you have to buy a pack of gum to pee!

One of the bestest places in Maine is Greenbush Maine.
Folks there are very friendly.
