I spent a good portion of my life in the Boston area, and can easily say that even the most urban parts of Southern Maine (of which there are very few) are not even close to being as busy or built up as Boston or even its extreme suburbs. Even Portland is a MUCH smaller town with a MUCH slower pace of life than the Boston area. It's also much cheaper and much more sparsely populated than even the furthest reaches of metro-Boston. Southern Maine is about as similar to Boston and its surroundings as it is similar to even the most hard to reach places of rural, Northern Maine (read: VERY different).
I kinda agree with you. Southern Maine is Southern Maine not Boston. But the attitude in some places down that end of the state is what give it the nickname Northern Mass. And I wouldn't say anything south of Bangor. To me Bangor, Augusta, Wells, K/bunk, and others are getting or have the same superiority complex that Portland has. But the smaller towns around there aren't that way. They have a "give a-___" attitude toward anyone in their way. To me in a small town it stinks. Life should be above that. And yes, I've had my time in huge cities. Never enjoyed it for long. I may visit but wion't go back to live. All attitude to me.

Be careful.

When discussing the general attitude of folks in Northern Maine vs. Southern Maine; lest you choose to begin using a phrase to call that line of demarcation.

Naming that 'line' gets folks upset.

My whole thought on it is it's not so much a line as it is and area. And I think the "volvo" has changed to Pius, er, uh Prius. I own one; you'd think I'd remmeber the name. My in laws say it's a statement. In my case it isn't; Im'just cheap. Must be the Scot in me.

Unless, I have become suddenly brain dead, the Prius is NOT an inexepensive automobile. A Toyota Corolla, would be a much less expensive auto to operate than a Prius. So, I have to say, buy a Yaro, or a Corolla, and not a Prius if you are Scottish. But if you operate on a south of the Volvo line mentality, why waste good cash. PS- Tinbinder, I really like your posts, but don't always have to agree with you.

I agree with everyone here as long as we can safely agree that there are significant differences between southern Maine and the Boston area just as there significant differences between northern and southern Maine.... Attitudes, cost of living, population density, etc. We don't need to bring cars into the discussion to establish that.
