Acadia, shore path, seafood festival, Jordan Pond--hike around it and on up to Bubble Rock, Bubble Pond, 4th of July parade, Sand Beach and Great Head, Thunder Hole especially if there's a storm, Cadillac, and how could you forget the fireworks!? Seawall, whale watching, take a schooner trip (docked at Bar Harbor Inn), Seal Harbor, Northeast Harbor, Southwest Harbor, Somes Sound, take a trip out to one of the islands..I could list more, but will stop for now.

Check out the town's official Chamber of Commerce site for activities going on during the day on the 4th of July: Bar Harbor Chamber Of Commerce Bar Harbor Maine
Includes blueberry breakfast, craft fair, parade, seafood festival, music, and fireworks.
Also in Bar Harbor, the Native American Festival and Basket Makers Market will be held on July 7 from 10 AM to 4 PM at the College of the Atlantic campus. The event is sponsored by the Abbe Museum and focuses primarily on art.

Also, in Ellsworth: On July 5th the Ellsworth Outdoor Cinema will be showing a movie on the lawn of the Knowlton Elementary School. (Schedule not yet posted.) On July 6th there will be a waterfront concert at the Harbor Park gazebo at 6 PM. On July 11th the Ellsworth Concert Band will be performing at City Hall at 8 PM.

If you don't mind traveling a bit down the coast, LL Bean is also celebrating its 100th anniversary in Freeport this year during the first week of July. Go here for more info: L.L.Bean Hometown Celebration, July 4-7, Freeport, Maine

Excellent list. It's what the wife and I do every year. Unfortunately we won't be able to make it this year for the first time in a couple of decades

Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, Bristol, Maine Have you visited Camden, "The Jewel of the Maine Coast"? Welcome! | Discover the Jewel of the Maine Coast There was a thread about Camden earlier this spring....lots of good info. The view from Mt. Battie is worth the short trip. http://www.maine.gov/cgi-bin/online/...&option=search

We enjoy a walk on the beach and a walk on the trail at Moose Point State Park (great place for a picnic/cookout) in Searsport Maine Bureau of Parks & Lands - Search for Parks and Properties Have you visited Fort Knox State Park and the Observatory in Bucksport (includes picnic/cookout area)? http://fortknox.maineguide.com/events.html After you leave the Fort and cross the bridges, take a left and get some ice cream at the take out ice cream place on Main Street and then go for a stroll along the Bucksport riverfront--very nice. Visit Colonel Buck's grave stone across from Hannaford. Colonel Buck's Cursed Tomb, Bucksport, Maine

When you get to Ellsworth, stop at the tourist info place across from the L. L. Bean outlet store on High St. (Rt. 1 & 3) Pick up a copy of Out and About in Downeast Maine (monthly publication) and the June 28 edition of The Ellsworth American (a weekly newspaper) for info about what's happening--things to do....maybe you already have a digital subscription to the The Ellsworth American. The Bangor Daily (Hancock County edition) Saturday/Sunday paper could be helpful as well. Here's a link to more Ellsworth/Hancock County info. Ellsworth Area Chamber of Commerce - Attractions & Recreation Activities There also the Mt. Desert Islander newspaper.
Check out The Grand's website for summer events. The Grand | Ellsworth, Maine

For some real Maine culture visit Jordan's Snack Bar in Ellsworth http://www.jordanssnackbar.com/ especially on Wednesday nights; they're always closed on July 4. Bikers' nights are good too. Every day/night is great at Jordan's Snack Bar.

Don't plan to drive after the fireworks (if they still do that). I used to have to work there the evening of July 4th every year and the drive back to Bangor was TERRIBLE.
