New York is the same. Everyone in Western NY would weep and moan about property taxes while they are lower than downstate - the real reason why NY gets high tax notoriety.

In Western NY, the houses are so cheap, it's irrelevant to complain because if you were to put the same exact house on the same exact property in two different areas (Erie and Westchester County) you'd find that the same exact house would probably be worth 1/4 as much in the Buffalo area. And since they gauge on value one is paying much lower taxes because of the lower value.

The same thing would happen with oceanfront property in York vs. oceanfront property in Machias or Cutler. I'd guess the York or OOB property would be worth 4x as much.

Cape Neddick/York Beach area to me is the best spot to be in the summer.
