Hi Everyone- I live in Levant, just outside of Bangor and we are getting ready to purchase 100 gallons of oil and have our furnace inspected. I was just wondering who you recommend for buying oil from in the area and if you have that same company work on your furnace or if you go to someone else. I have enjoyed the company we have purchased our oil with in the past, but the last time I used them for a service call and they charged $150 to replace a $20 part that we knew needed replaced. Anyway, just on a tight budget but looking for good and reasonable customer service as well.

Thanks!

Here's a link to fuel prices in the area. Not sure on the system service part of it. We used Foster when we lived in Bangor and sometimes Harley's. Both were good.

Use to live in Northern Maine, never heard of "Levant"...Aunt lived in Bangor for years and I use to go up to see her. Tell me something about "Levant"...population, how far from Bangor, etc. That 150.00 charge to service your furnace, kind of the norm. We have a service contract we signed with the company who delivers our oil and also we got put on a budget plan that runs year round. Right now we have "oil money in their plan" so we are all set for the colder weather. We are not in Maine but you might want to ask your next oil provider about a budget plan and a service plan. Because we are a regular customer, we don't pay any extra for them to service our furnace..I do think it might be included though in the cost of our oil. Hope you found someone to help you out and would love to hear more about "Levant"..thanks!

Levant is a small town west of Bangor, east of Newport.

I don't have much experience with burner service people here, I had one service call about 4 years ago...but I shut the furnace off shortly after that and it hasn't been on since.

It's a little fuzzy now, but I remember there being some sort of hassle about getting oil, service, and another company's tag on the fill...just some sort of blackmail scheme as far as I'm concerned though, because my father owned an oil company years ago and I used to make the deliveries (he did burner work) and we didn't care who did service and who sold fuel...wife just informed me that some companies refused to deliver to us because we didn't have a service contract with them, but we got Brown's Cash Fuel to come out, he didn't care whether or not we had a service contract.

If you just want service, send an e-mail to...nevermind, I'll put it in a DM to you, IDK if he wants me to put his addy up on a board like this.

As was said find a company where you can purchase an annual service contract (for about $189 a year). Maybe the company you enjoyed in the past offered them and you didn't know about them(?) It should include an annual cleaning/inspection of sorts and no more charges for individual service calls. Getting on a budget plan should help your budget. I would only be able to recommend Emerson Energy Fuels in Ellsworth....have relatives and friends in Bangor--maybe will have more info for you soon.
