Once the sun gets up and it warms just a bit, he will fall asleep. Tiptoe out there and carefully open the release door. He'll sleep all day and leave on his own early evening/sundown. Don't ask . Had a few of them around here get in the traps as well. If you are still a bit worried about getting sprayed, you can take an old sheet out with you and drape it over the trap and work the door through the sheet. It will still stink like the devil if it sprays, but won't stick to you.

ohhh he's not staying. He's a guest with a round trip ticket. He sprayed the cat last week. Three dogs, a cat, rare breed turkey eggs and nests and skunks don't work out well together. When the door opens he won't be here. Last I looked out the skunk was standing up trying to figure out how to get out. When DH got home to relocate the little beast it was asleep with its tail curled up over its head. How can something so adorable smell so bad!?!

Isn't it! I swear by Skunk Off! Wonder Mutt smells much better. He's still not coming in the house for a while though.

While I'm dispensing animal trivia - for tangles with porcupines you need something like Novacaine, syringe and needle, snips, needle nosed pliers and an extra set of hands. If it's too bad you can ask your vet for a tranquilizer pill or take the animal to the vet. It's easier if you've seen it done once.

And they never learn do they? "Oh look another striped kitty, I'm going to go play!" "Ooh, my friend Mr. Porky...I was supposed to stay away for some reason, but, can't remember, so it can't be important" I can almost hear the thoughts going through a dogs mind.

For the dog, get some vinegar douche (yep you read that right). Works great at removing the odor.
A friend and I tried the old blanket over the skunk trap and it works as far as keeping the smell off of you, but then you are stuck with a smelly trap, plus the area around the house.

I had gator sausage in New Orleans years ago. DH loved it, it tasted like it had gone bad to me.
