Artist/Writer seeking summer 08 job and rental in Damariscotta area.
Hello,
I am seeking for ideas for employment and long term rental ( 2-3 months) in the Damariscotta region in spring, summer 08. I would like to work in an inn, restaurant or gallery, or in any capacity. Is there an online website that lists seasonal employment? Any ideas on monthly summer rentals ( reasonably priced). Does anyone here know of someone who rents an unadvertised place? I am a professional female, mature ( late 30's), very clean and quite. I have an older house cat who is clean and quite.
Also could barter for a nice place to stay with housework, gardening or pet care. I want to be in Maine and enjoy the natural beauty and paint and write.
Any ideas, suggestions and ideas help would be appreciated!
very sincerely,
DragonFly

Check out Craigslist Maine for the housing. Google Jobs in Maine--usually plenty of jobs at Inns listed--seasonal of course. (I'm not a Mainer yet myself, but these sites "look" helpful. Also, it may be difficult to get an unskilled job in Maine before you have a Maine address. some posts on this forum suggest that Mainers would like to hire Mainers--seems reasonable.

Thank you Treelvr and Danpv,
Sorry it took a while for me to get back to you, but my computer had a virus and it took awhile to deal with it...
Anyway, I will be following all your leads! I will be going up to the area in a few weeks to look around, so I'll be able to go check out some Inns or Restaurants.
I'll see what happens.....

"I will be going up to the area in a few weeks to look around, so I'll be able to go check out some Inns or Restaurants."
My memory (somewhat distant, 'tis true) of working the summer in Maine was that the better jobs were promised long before the summer, at least in better restaurants and so on. Many people had already agreed the previous summer to come back (usually students) and all jobs were filled by Easter. You are wise to look way in advance.
Good luck. Coastal Maine in summer is wonderful. I lived on Westport Island, went to Reid State Park every afternoon (the most beautiful little beach in the world!) and then on to a dinner shift at a tourist restaurant. From which I got laid off just before the end of the summer, but still...

Dragonfly, some of the restaurants and inns may be closed this time of year....if you find this to be true, a local person from a little mom and pop store or other year round business would be able to give you contact information if you tell them why you're interested

Put an ad in the Lincoln County News. Though the website doesn't have classifieds yet and you can subscribe to the paper. The restaurants will start to advertise for help around March.
