There is a bottler in Pa. that sells the stuff, and it seems to be made by the older recipe that has more gentian root in it. The Moxie folks in Union used to bring some up for sale during the fair, and it is noticeably stronger! (Yumm!!)

Moxie

Moxie is available at almost every major grocery store and chain gas station in Maine. The gas stations will only have the little bottles but the grocery stores usually carry the smaller bottles and 2 liters. I have seen Moxie tiny bottles in NH grocery store fridges near check out lanes, but never in the main soda aisles. (I may have overlooked them, though.) Most MA & CT grocery stores do not carry Moxie but smaller locations may special order it to appeal to the "New England feel" of their establishments.

I love Moxie! It's especially tasty with rum on the rocks.

As for the taste of "modern" Moxie, it isn't the original non-narcotic formula, which contained sassafras. I think the gentian root taste has definitely been toned down over the years to make it more attractive to the sugar addicts (or I should say corn syrup addicts) that consume most of the sickeningly sweet and tasteless soft drinks popular today.

Moxie and diet Moxie can be bought everywhere in Maine, even Walmart (finally).
