How cool is that?!
I think Forest has been breathing life into some oldies. It's a great thread to revive!

When the ice is about to go out the kids either stay in touch with school by radio or a teacher's aide goes out to spend a week or two with families until the lakes are ice free and the kids can come by boat again.

It's different up here. The two teachers who developed the survival unit for junior high kids got national award for it.
This is great!!!! For many kids survival skills are needed to survive INSIDE the school, not outside. Another reason why I love Maine.........

I tell you...I've traveled to many states, and out of all of them, I've never met anyone other than Mainers who are really proud of their home state. It seems people either love or hate it from what I experienced when i was at college there.

What's funny is that the Florida board has very similar discussions about how Florida is the perfect lifestyle: warm weather year-round, going to the beach everyday, etc. It just seems so funny seeing 2 opposite environments saying they have it nicest, lol. Of course it's whatever your preference is, just find it funny.
