Hi everyone,

I'm considering a job change out of the city where I own a home, and would I'd like to hear about commuting experiences to/from the Portland-Sanford area route for work, especially Route 111. The turnpike leg isn't a concern. I've lived in many areas of Maine as far north as Stonington and to the west in Farmington and Bryant Pond (yes, in the Don't Yank the Crank days), have a Subaru, am ok with most winter driving.

I tried the route this week and found it easily doable.

Thoughts? Stories? Advice? Thanks.

Are you commuting from Sanford to Portland, or from Portland to Sanford?

If going into Portland in the morning and home to Sanford at night, you'll be in the usual rush hour traffic in town, but that should ease up after you hit the turnpike.

If you live in Portland and work in Sanford, you'll be driving against the commuter traffic and shouldn't have too much trouble.

You will be moving in the opposite direction as most of the traffic both ways. The road is quite level and straight. There are numerous opportunities to pass slower traffic. It should be an easy commute year round.

Yup, Portland to Sanford. I read a thread on As Maine Goes that said Route 111 is one of the deadliest in Maine, a bit of a red flag considering it's the only route to get there.

Thanks for your comments, Coaster and NMLM.
