Maybe we should have the government ban other things for us that will hurt us like fatty foods. It certainly can't be a good example for us ( keep in mind we are in an obesity epidemic) to eat non-healthy foods in front of our children. This will almost certainly lead to a lifetime of bad eating habits in each and every case, right? I'm just saying people have free will and should be personally responsible for how they live their lives. Once the government starts chipping away on certain freedoms...it hurts us all..because they will NEVER stop with just smoking.

Fewer and fewer people are going armed, in some cases people who successfully defend themselves with a firearm wind up being prosecuted for doing so.
Fewer people being armed makes it easier to pass more restrictive laws, even bad laws and the people feel less able to protest them. The people don't get to vote on what laws are passed, the politicians do what they want and it is much more difficult to get a law rescinded.
The cops seem to be less polite to the citizens in general. It seems like it's becoming us vs. them. The cops are supposed to be "for" us, not our opponents, but so many stupid laws get passed...how many people feel a sudden panic when they see blue lights behind them "Oh no, what did I do wrong?"
I don't make a habit of watching TV shows like "Cops" but I've seen it a few times and been disgusted with some of the behaviors of the "boys in blue", and if they'll do that when the cameras are rolling, what will they do when no one is watching? (And before anyone jumps to the wrong conclusion, I have been involved in LE. I'm not a "cop hater", but I really don't like some of the things I've been seeing.)
It's not justs the "real" cop shows. My wife likes to watch the CSIs and "Stark" and more than a few times I've seen the shows portray the violation of rights as "acceptable". It is very disturbing.
Also disturbing is the so-called "Patriot" Act, as well as other laws in the US Code which can subject one to federal felony charges for speaking out against the government...or worse, locked away in Guantanamo Bay.
Buffalo Springfield:
" There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware"
...
" Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away
We better stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down"
Paranoid? I don't know, but I think the Founding Fathers would be revolted at the current state of affairs. (Pun intended.)

Well said. Violating rights...the Patriot Act. I'm sure our founding Fathers are rolling in their graves ( for the record, I believe Ron Paul voted against it).

I dont consider myself a democrat or republican, I just vote for who I think could do the best job at voting time. So I'm not bashing.............but
I have noticed all the Ron Paul comments on blogs, forums, etc. Seems everyone seems to work the word "Ron Paul" into far too many things. "I went apple picking on Sunday. Ron Paul loves apples." Yes, an exaggerated example to prove a point

Ain't that the truth. Obesity is slowly taken over smoking deaths so I fear this is just the tip of the iceberg.

What is the difference between banning smoking in cars and banning fatty foods? Neither are good for you and both can be considered an invasion of privacy.
I DARE someone to get between me and my chocolate!!!!!!
