What does TR stand for? I know it's an unincorporated territory, but I'm curious what the letters stand for. Maybe it simply stands for "territory"? I've searched online and couldn't find an answer. Thanks!

Townships in Northern Maine are generally numbered from south to north and from right to left. For example, T3R8 is in the third township up and the eighth township left from WELS. That is "West of the East Line of the State. In central Maine you see such townships as T37 MD NBPP. That would stand for Township 37, Middle Division, North of Bingham's Penobscot Purchase.

This was all covered on the Northern Maine Land Man Show on August 31 and followed up on September 7. You can listen to the archived shows at TalkShoe - Call - The Northern Maine Land Man.
