Well, I bought riverfrontage forest for $950/acre.

Across the road the forest costs $350/acre.

Yes my riverfrontage is more expensive, however, compared to waterfrontage near the ocean, I got a deal!

Yes you did.. in Eastport, the difference with no waterview is extreme..goes from under 40 or 50K in some cases to well over 200K...hence the longer wait. If I'm going to live the rest of my days out there, I want to be able to wake up and go to sleep watching the watah!!!

Well now to be honest with you and to avoid giving the wrong idea here.

As KAF can testify to:

Our land has a wide creek and wetland crossing our property, it turns and flows into the Penobscot river. Our land has 1/4 mile of river frontage. But where we could safely build is up above the floodplain, with the creek and it's wetland between our home and the river.

I have posted pictures taken from our riverbank, and they are very pretty. However that is not the view we have from our house.

Our back window view is looking over a wetland marsh, where we keep our kayaks tied up. We can kayak down to the river's bank, or walk through the muck, slogging through beaver poo and swamp grasses to get to the rivers bank.

We would like to build a floating boardwalk when we are finished with building our house. Then we will be able to walk upright and dry from our home to the riverbank.

From the site-work clearing our driveway, we did form a slight ditch which runs by our house. In that ditch does flow surface water coming from the wetland / peat-bog across the road. It flowed continuously for the past two years, and has only recently dried up this summer due to the drought that we are currently experiencing. So we have enjoyed water flowing next to our house. I do need to clean up the 'ditch', to secure it's shape from erosion and to provide it with landscaping plants. We hope to begin doing an aquaculture project connected to this ditch to raise fish in. [keep in mind that you can never call such a ditch of flowing water a: "creek", "brook", or 'stream" as it is against code to build within 75 feet of any creek, brook, or stream.]

But you can built as close as 10 feet from a flood plain, so long as you are not down in the flood plain. So we can keep our kayaks in the water of the flood plain, tied up 50 feet from the house and that is legal.

I would not move to Houlton it is to far out of the way and the kids would be bored stiff. I live in Old Town Me and I love it. I have 3 kids one has graduated, 1 is in HS and 1 is in elementary school. We are 20 minutes from Bangor where most of the jobs are but we are not in the "City". Eastport is one of my favorite towns but I like to just visit, I would not want to live there. There is a lake called Meddybumps close to Eastport that has some great fishing. And of course there is always Salt Water fishing right in Eastport. Unfortunately we have to sell our house and move out of our wonderful state because my husband’s job is moving. We are devastated but my husband works for an airline and that does not have much call around here. You can bet we will come home when it is time to retire.

We are counting down the days until we can get back to our home in Eastport again. Counting the months until he can retire and we can move permantently. We hate being in WV, wish every day we were in Eastport. Having owned property in Midcoast for several years, I have to say that Eastport meets and/or exceeds our expectations of our dreams and wants.

Personally, I'd change careers before I'd leave Maine for a job relocation. That's just me! I don't even live there yet, but I'd bet all I have that once I do, I'll never leave!!

Oh how I wish it were that easy. My husband and I did talk about that option but in the end we cant take the time for him to get retrained. We will get back home again sometime. We are from Maine so we have family here and we will be back often. It is just not in the cards for us to stay home. We were meant to spread our wings as my mother would say. This is not the first out of state move in fact it is the third and we have always been able to come back so we are confident we will again.

My husband does accident reconstruction for a living. Any ideas anyone? Thanks.
