I miss their reindeer cookies-so cute and delish too.

I always thought fruitcakes were gag gifts...this is the first time in my entire life I've ever heard of anyone not only eating one but actually enjoying it. I could have made some money if I had saved them up over the years instead of regifting.

(I keed, I keed on the regifting...I wouldn't do that to someone.)

I wish Herters was still around. That's a blast from the past

Well anyway... I couldn't resist telling of the fruit cake (which is what we called it) that passed around our family for over 30 years. Nobody ever took a bite and each year, the previous years recipient would gift it forward. My grandfather got it three times and a few years ago (on the third time) he cut a slice and ate it.
He said it was the best he had ever had! LOL!

Good times!

My thoughtful daughter-in-law saw my facebook post about fruitcake and sent away to the Vermont Country Store for a fruitcake for me. I have had some thin slices cut with a very sharp knife along with some very good egg nog. The fruitcake is the old fashioned kind with large pieces of real fruit. She said she searched everywhere for one with lingonberries and they are just not available.

The first part of the video contains some uses for fruitcakes.

I'm glad you have your fruitcake! I looked in Lincoln and Bangor while I was out, and checked with a local baker and didn't find one. Merry Christmas!

Most people just have never had really good fruitcake. It should be home-made, soaked in brandy and flaming.

Agree. In fact, a really good fruitcake doesn't even need the alcohol. I donno what most of that stuff they sell in the stores is, but it ain't fruitcake.
