Is this a current report? I know I find lots of reports and surveys online and never know if they're 2007 or 1997! Thanks!

There does seem to be a direct correlation.

I can see that. Living in the south all my life, I can attest to the fact that I feel very bitchy most of the year while the heat lingers like thick sludge. Then, when it starts to cool off, like this week, I get to go outside and enjoy the fresh air and I feel so different. I'm happier, more active and generally in a better mood. So, I wouldn't be surprised if a study were to prove that heat and high crime rates are directly related.

This is the closest thing to the above info I could find
US States Crime 2004 -2005 Crimes per 100,000 and Ranking
it's a bit hard to follow as the catagories are at the top of the page and you have to scroll to Maine but there's a lot of stats.

Puerto Rico is included in those stats, making Maine no. 51 for car theft ,.. no wonder we feel safe leaving the keys in the car!

Right up until you look at #6 - Alaska. Which is ranked much worse than Alabama and some other Southern states. I was going to guess population density, but Alaska mucks up that theory as well. I would think heat would have something to do with it though just off hand and after spending some time in Texas.
