Default Tropical Storm Noel

Okay, everyone ready, hatches battened down, food and water on hand, and flashlights in every room? Here it comes!!! I think this time they may be right, we could be looking at a real storm.

We spent the evening last night getting the rabbit hutches in the barn addition more covered than they currently were, getting the goat's barn entrances better covered so not as much wind and rain comes in, securing the goats on the hill (a grassy knoll in the backyard) so that their shelter is comfy and warm, and picking up the yard. I have more picking up to do, and some wood to possibly drop off at Forest's place to prevent it blowing around here. I need to run to the bank, then run to the grocery store for sour cream. Homemade mac and cheese for tonight, easily heated on the grill if need be. Sure do wish we had that woodstove already! (haven't been without one in 8 years) Oil lamps and flashlights are raring to go, and the heat is on so that when we lose power (notice the when, not if) we'll at least be halfway warm. Going to get a couple magazines as well, so we can curl up in bed with the puppies and read tonight. Yep, it's gonna be a two-dog night. Looking forward to it, bring it on Noel!

I must admit I'm a little nervous about this storm today and tonight. Looks like it's gonna smack right into Eastport. I talked with my neighbor last evening and he'll keep an eye out and check the house after it's over. Last time we had a storm like this one, part of a tree fell on my garage. Not being there in person is what is making me nervous, I think.

I haven't kept up with that storm at all, since it's not headed here. When is it supposed to hit?

Everyone be safe!

The wind started to pick up about 30 minutes ago. I filled the poultry feeders yesterday, closed up the ends of the hoop house with poly, brought in enough firewood, made suer I have enough candles, etc. This morning I picked Swiss chard and spinach so that I don't have to go out at supper time if we decide we want something other than soup. I'll start bread in a few minutes and make soup later. The last thing to do is fill a couple of pails with water to flush the toilet in case the power goes out, and top off the meat chicken and duck water before the rain starts. I'm going to snuggle in soon with the lap top and write until the power goes out.

I can totally understand that, it would certainly scare me to not be home and see what's happening. Then again, I must admit I'm a little nervous about it and I WILL be here for it. Just those high winds are frightening. Trying to make the best of it, and get through it. Just hoping and praying hubby gets home in time. He had to go out and work today, saw him at 10am and they had at least 3 hours more before they could think about calling it a day. Gotta love that last-bit-of-the-season landscaping work. Ugh.

I think I've mostly got everything done. Still need to clean the dishes, and my bedroom. Vaccum and steam the carpet in my bedroom as well. Did get 5 5-gallon buckets filled with water however. Oh yes, and betting bring in some water from the barn for drinking. (we keep bottled water there).

Be safe Corgi, and I'll be praying that all goes well for your home and your neighbors as well.

I thought I had plenty of size D batteries, but I've got to run out and pick up some more....each of the kids like to have their own flashlights....I ran out to get a turnip this morning for beef stew and the grocery store was packed! I think I'll pick up some sour cream and make a coffee cake too, that will be good to have on hand I'm not expecting to have my internet server either, so even with the battery charged on the laptop I won't be able to hop on here

We just had someone run over to the house in Eastport for us--we usually don't worry about the cellar door, but if the wind hits it just right it opens.....hopefully everything will be ok down there!

All of you take care, and be careful!

I sure do hope everyone stays safe and warm. I don't know just how bad it's going to get but, we're are in pretty good shape with things I believe. We're right near the center of town so if we do lose power we should get it back fairly soon. Take care, you're in my thoughts, each and everyone of you
