There's really NO question at ALL that I'm a Mainiac at heart. My best friend lives in the part of Canada to which I presume the poster referred when he mentioned 'part of canada' seceding .... I always tell her that the Canadians got the 'best part of the US' LOL !!!! Wouldn't it be WONDERFUL if this could really happen?
I wonder if this would spark a bloody battle as the United States and the Canadian government try to 'keep' us.

Where do I sign up for my new MaiCanaVer Passport?? Yippee !!!!
I'm so INTO maine and the way yall think.
I guess I won't be sayin' 'yall' much longer. Took me years to learn that, too !!
Here in Florida it's de riguer.

I'm all for it. Here's one of the reasons why. I just came home from a school consolidation meeting. My husband is on the finance committee. It's not looking good for a lot of us. Cities are going to be fine. Any city with 2,500 students doesn't have to consolidate. Small towns are probably going to have to raise taxes to cover their higher school administration budgets. I'm on the governance committee. Again, small towns are likely to lose their single voice. One proposal puts my town in a sub-unit with five other towns. These six towns combined will get one voice if this is the option voted in by the consolidation committee. If we can secede and get out from under this Baldacci fiasco it would be a blessing.

I'm in a very quiet place. I had to put my face down on the table to stop from bursting out laughing so loud everyone would have noticed.

STILL laughing.

In a way, I should have just burst out so I could show all of them .....

I thought the thread was jocular. In the real world, Of COURSE< I agree with you.

Divide and conquer: the oldest trick in the book.

It's how they win.

It's how 'we the people' lose.

you and dramammama: ABSOLUTELY correct. That is the corruption in the schools. Now that Tampa has grown so AWFULLY you can really see it in our local school system (the corruption) all the top NEA and the supers and the admin are either from new york (sorry but it's true and I have kin in new york too so please, no offense) ... or they are from 'good' families here, if you get my drift. The teachers that haven't been imported are really upset and angry at the kids and themselves being cheated. The 'imported' teachers are pretty much laughing and siding with admin because !!!! ==== they are the ones who are being awarde through the new freaky system of alphabet soup awarding (FCAT, NCLB, A B C D E F schools, etc......) they're all working the system and the kids are suffering.

AND, they're teaching them the same things over and over and over again. Every kid knows this, the ones who aren't from 'good' families with their futures assured in this city feel very cheated and disenfranchised. It's sad all around.-
THEN it's almost like a kidnapping. In some places your child has to leave the house at fourthirty am and you don't see them again until late afternoon which different times of year means they are walking in the dark both times.

It's out of control. Those people don't care. They're laughing all the way to the bank. In Tampa tehre is ONE 'good school'. The jockeying to get your child into it would not be bested by any race car driver. It's a very cutthroat business all done with a smile and a shiv. A joke on all of us because these beloved children are our future.

I have to agree with you Maine Writer being the only Washington County town and being forced to partner with Ellsworth and other towns to our west it is going to break this town and force a lot of folks to re-think do they stay here or move as many will no longer be able to afford the major tax hike this town will see. You drive around town and see more and more homes going up for sale and this is not a good sign so all we can do is say thank you Mr. Governor you have done a wonderful job.
As for the two Maines it has always been this way and on more than one occassion politicians from both Washington County and Aroostock County have said it over and over that htese two counties should partner and form their own state as the way of life and the way of thinking is not like the rest of the state. AND YES LETS GIVE THE REST OF THE STATE BACK TO MASSACHUSETTS we might be better off in the long run and they can get the Governor to as part of the deal.

I had a college professor that said that it is believed that if in fact the Quebec movement were to succeed that the Canadian Maritime Provinces would be likely to drop out of Canada and apply for admission to the Union. Here's to Labrador being the new Maine.
Wouldn't that mean that North and South Carolina should be recombined? Do West Virginians need to start sending their taxes to Richmond? Hmmmm. As of March 14, 1820, Maine was part of Massachusettes. The change that took place the next day would have to be rectified too, and that makes the whole discussion of secession irrelevant.

Might as well include Augusta. They have those rotaries there. That's definitely a Massachusetts phenomenon.

Potato wars, eh? Well, I think we should all arm ourselves with these.

We have had many potato wars on the island. Warning: These are meant for adult useage only. Not to be used by/near small children. Very powerful weapons. Heck of a lot of fun!
