i've been seeing alot of hawks around the interstate- brownish in color-not very long, but sizeable wing-span

The most common hawk in many areas is the red tail.

Look for the solid russet colored tail an unmistakable characteristic. Especially whren the sun hits it just right it really stands out.

You have to know what to look for before you can see it.

I think it's a Cooper's hawk, or perhaps a marsh hawk.
