That should make me a double hick since I live in West Virginia and Eastport Maine - also a hillbilly, redneck and all those other nice labels.

Definition of a hick (hillbilly style): A person who is by and large happy with their lot in life. They know they are not rich, especially intelligent, or cultured in the ways of the nouveau world. They would like to have more money, but they won't stay awake worrying about it. They would like more material things in life, but it's okay not to have them. Their biggest and most important worry is if that their children have a better life than they had. They are not easily changed by the talk of others, and they will listen to anyone, but yet make their own decision.

They are listeners. You may be around a hick a year or so before they let you know that they are a hick. They talk when they have something to say, and are quiet when they don't. They value each other's word, and try to treat others as they wish to be treated. They don't stand out in crowds, but rather are one of the masses. Some people may say that they are backwards, but in their own way they are very progressive. They don't adapt to new ideas simply because someone tells them they need to.

Are you a hick? I am, and I am right proud of that fact. I go to sleep each night with a clear conscience and I ask forgiveness of those that I may have offended.

No matter what Forest is doing, no matter what type of lifestyle he is living, he is definitely NOT a "hick". Hicks don't write Latin.

The rest of this discussion, IMHO, is just BS.

I don't think it's negative. I don't think it's a lot of things defined here. Go by your own definition and have fun with it!

One thing I think all "hicks" should have is a sign by the mailbox that reads: "I live where you vacation, and I will not vacation where you live!"

Personally I don't like being called a hick, I prefer "Rube"
