Ah, you want to practice the refined, meticulous style of fishin' that people spend a lifetime perfecting. Molly, I think this means you're what's known as an upscale hick.

OK after reading that, I am 90% hick. Unless a 4X4 Suburban is close enough to a pick-up. Don't think either the Cops or the kids would like all 4 Ruffians sitting in the back in January.

I knew I was a Hick already though, everybody always tells me that... although they generally pronounce it with a "D" and not an "H"... hummmm wonder why that is. Must just be a strange twist of the Maine Hick's speech pattern.

Ah, now see I really like going out on boats, on the ocean. I just don't fish off of them, so I guess that puts me half way there for that criteria

Fly fishing is fascinating to watch, but I'm definitely not the hip-wader type and then there is that little problem of me not being able to swim a stroke. Fly fishing is best done by people who can actually swim, just in case...

DH said he used to own a small pickup truck way back before he ever met me. And he used to hunt with his father when he was a kid, although he never shot at anything.

Are we getting closer? I still think I'd be better as a mascot though.

I don't hunt, fish or drive a pickup. I do go to the store in my jammies, love bonfires and abstain from make-up. I can clean a fish, have helped (many times) butcher deer and pigs, and I can can . I'm a "lady hick"

WHAT IS A HICK??

Hicks don't have to live in the woods, plenty live in cities, but a majority of them live in rural communities-mainly farms.

Hicks may (or may not) have a genuinly high IQ, but they generally have less then an eigth grade education. High school is about as far as it gets, if even that far, but a hick never has any further "formal" education.

Hicks generally drive something along the line of a Ford F-150, but they are also known to drive cameros or anything else that is American and b*tch*n. Either way, the vehicle is always at least 20 years old at the maximum.

There is only one form of music; the Grand Ol Opry.

Hicks like to hunt, but instead of going for a deer or something that will actually feed the family for awhile; they tend to stick to hunting rabbits and squerrals.

If a hick is fortunate enough to even own a television set, you can bet that it only gets one channel.

.

I just don't like when people apply labels to themselves. "Well, I guess I am a hick...that seems to best sum me up...well I better get going on that meth lab". Sometimes when people apply a label to themselves they feel the need to conform to the stereotype.

lol!! I don't know about that! But thank you for the morning laugh as I try to avoid doing more Thanksgiving prep! (I'm trying to resist the Pillsbury Ready Made Pie Crusts that are calling my name all the way from the IGA.....mine are better, and cheaper to make....at least that's my mantra!)

upscale hick.... does that mean I can keep wearing my barn jacket even though I don't have a barn?

I'm not a great swimmer, I probably wouldn't drown, but don't think I'm going to test that theory out either! My girls are fantastic swimmers--jumping off back road bridges into the smaller rivers, and going to the quarry. The boys are more like me. I read somewhere a while ago that many Mainers, especially old timers along the coast, don't know how to swim. I don't know how true it is, but with the ocean water temps and lack of swimming pools I can understand how it might be! Wonder where swimming ability enters into the level of "hick"?
