Jpurvis,
I just joined today and feel lucky to find this forum and then your post. I too am 40 something, kids are grown – still working – still need to work. I took a vacation to Maine and fell in love. I want to move to Maine…soon. I have been looking at the job situation and feeling a bit worried. I was looking at the Cutler area (Washington County) – just because I am in love with a house for sale there. Do you have a definite move date yet? My goal is June 2008. I wish you luck in your plans!
Thanks to all - as all of the replies to this post are helping me as well!

Hello SoCal,
I have family that just moved outside of Augusta last year, so I will probably go somewhere close to them. I too, have been worried about the job issue, but I am praying something will come about. Where about is the area you are going to?
These forums have really been helpful to me so I am sure you will fiind them useful as well.
I don't have an exact date, I have loose ends to ty up here in Florida, but my goal is no later than June of 08. Looks like there may be several of us going at that time.
I wish you luck and best wishes in your move. Take care.

Jpurvis,
How long have you been in Florida? And what part? I was born in Homestead, FL - at the base...
I don't have any job leads yet but am optimistic for both of us. Even if there is a pay decrease...
Best of luck to you as well!
I'm hoping we all get there in 08!

I have lived in Florida all my life. Have never lived more than 20 miles from where I grew up. I live in the Naples area. If you are still familiar with the area, you probably know while I am leaving. It has changed SOOOOO much down here. Did you leave Homestead before or after Andrew?

We only lived there about a year, my father was in the Air Force, so we moved quite a bit. We were on the base when Donna hit! Please don't do the math
Ended up in Southern California years ago. I've heard of Naples though - on the Gulf, where most of the hurricanes live?

That would be the place. Yeah, my parents and sisters went through Donna. I was born the next year. This whole area is so different now, not at all like it use to be. I am ready for my life to be less hectic, and not as much stress. I don't know about there, but here, everyone is in a hurry and it is rush, rush , rush all the time. My sister and her family love it in Maine. Where is the area you are talking about going too?

I like the whole state... I'm looking into Washington County because it's close to the coast and it seems that there is more rain and milder temperatures. Plus there is this house on the market that I just love. But I am open to the whole state.
I'm with you, less hectic sounds good. Less crowds, less crime. It seems that Florida has had an increase in crime...is that true?

It has gotten worse, but that is normal, anytime you get more people, you are gonna have more crime. Naples is not as bad as some areas, but it is getting there. The thing with Naples, you have to be a millionaire to be able to afford to live here. I know they say taxes and stuff are high in Maine, but they are here too. Property taxes anyway, and I know since you are in Ca, you know all too well.
I never in a million years thought I would ever want to live in Maine, I always figured I would stay south. But when I went, I fell in love with it. So I am making my way there as soon as I can.
