Question hunting tips

Does anyone have any hunting tips or info on the Caribou/Limestone area? Hubby is an avid hunter and is wondering how it is up there

Well about 90% of the population up here "heater hunt" out in the North Maine Woods. Which means they drive around all day and never leave the comfort of the heater unless they see a deer either in the road or next to it. If you want to get out a bit, there is vast amonts of land all over the place to get out and walk literally for hundreds of miles.

Maine has the biggest deer anywhere. There is a good reason for it. If a fawn doesn't reach 75 pounds the first year it won't survive the winter. For that reason only the bigger deer get to reproduce. It's natural genetic selection.

We also have a large snowshoe hare population, big moose and coyote calling is growing in popularity along with being a good public service. Partridge hunting depends on our spring weather. If we have a late spring and a lot of rain the chick survival rate is low. A warm spring and we have a good partridge season.

"Heater Hunter" LOL. That is not something he would do...but, does sound better to me. He knows what to hunt, as he hunted many years in Southern Maine(20 years ago) But, was wondering if there are any different "tricks" for way up North? Thanks to you all for all your help.

We have wild turkeys all over the place. I'm expecting the bobcats to move back this way because of them. No rabbits though. I haven't seen one since early June.

Only difference would be you might want to add another layer (or 2) of clothes up north.

Thanks. I didn't think it would be too different, but I am NOT a hunter and don't know any of the tips. I can believe it about the extra clothes. My sister lives in the P.I. area and says they have 9 monnths of winter and 3 months of rough sledding.

All kidding aside, if he wants a real eye opening view on how to get some of the big deer up here. I cannot recommend the Benoit brothers videos enough. They are from either NH or VT, but hunt quite a bit in Maine. The are from the old school and have some really great tips. I have 3 of their DVD's and have really benefited from watching them.
