Having to move and hating it
We have been so happy here for 6 years and after finishing grad school, I just can't get a job! I went back to school and got a master's but there are so few teaching jobs here. I hate to leave Maine and move my kids, but it is really hard to make a living here. I am really sad to have to even think of moving. Is it any better in the Portland area jobwise?

Can I ask what part you are in? I know in just searching for jobs for myself, I see a lot of teaching jobs. I mean, I don't know the $$ or the area, but I know I had looked under a website called www.servingschools.com and there seemed to be quite a few.
I am hoping to move to the Augusta area in the next few months, and I hope to be able to find employment. I am in accounting, so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Red Square: I wish you the very best of luck in finding good employment. You have chosen a field (teaching) that should be of utmost priority to us. Your chosen profession shapes and secures the future. Once again, good luck. You are doing the right thing by furthering your education, and now by starting networking.

Don't forget to check here...Augusta should be a good area for you as far as employment goes, jpurvis.....there are positions in your field with the state, take a look:
Maine.gov: Employment: Job Opportunities
Also, check out indeed.com.....it lists ALL job openings within a mile radius or zip code. When I say all, I mean all the local newspaper listings, online postings, and all government openings, both state and federal:
indeed.com
I live in a rural area outside of Augusta...if I can help in any way, let me know!

Thanks Bewitched., That is the area I am looking at.
With all the discussion about the different aspects of Maine, I would like to ask the following. First to let you know what my situation will basically be.
I am just your simple 40 something divorced female, looking to have a more simple, relaxing. STRESS FREE life for the rest of my days here on earth. The same being down here, I live from pay check to pay check, have very little savings, and will be renting for a while until I win the lottery. I do vote, but am not into politics, don't really get involved in things like that. I just enjoy living life, no hassle type thing, spending time with family and friends, doing things outdoor, love animals, especially horses and dogs. I guess what I am trying to say is, for someone like me, would or do the politics, taxes and all the hoopla really fall into a catagory for me? Having a good job, and I am aware the pay will not be what I make here and that is cool. I realize that NO PLACE is perfect, but am looking for my little piece of heaven here on earth. Could this be Maine?

Jpurvis...I'm more than happy to lend my two cents (of COURSE I am...I'm female! )
But let's move this discussion to a new thread...so we don't interrupt the original intent of this post
Meetcha there, chicky!

I am looking for a teaching job.
I am aware of the serving schools site. There just hasn't been anything within an hours drive of my house. We live in Bangor. I had numerous interviews that ended with someone with 'more experience' or 'you were in our top three', but no job.
I have been networking since June. It really has been difficult. I sub, but it doesn't pay the bills. I have applied for positions outside of teaching recently. Hopefully something will pan out soon.

Red Square, I have a friend who is in the same position you are. It's tough in Maine. He is looking out-of-state now.
