There you go boonskyler! I understood the question but I don't know the answer. I bet someone will give you some info about A1 from Ellsworth to Bangor.

Boonskyler,.. I live in a very small town. We have a young woman that immigrated from China that lives on our street. We also have families of mixed American heritage, (black). Maine is an accepting place for people of differant backgrounds in my experience.

From everything that I have seen, the roads here are very well maintained.
They may accumulate bumps and potholes, but snow plowing begins when the first flakes start to fall. I have not seen a day yet that we have not been able to drive into Bangor.
During this most recent storm, my DW drove into Bangor every day. And I have driven almost everyday.
Falling snow, blowing snow, really do not inhibit anyone from driving here.
The only thing that I see as making things difficult are rear-wheel drive vehicles. They fish-tail a lot on ice. I see it even now when the snow is well packed down.
Front-wheel drive cars just do not fish-tail.
I have not seen any weather in the past three years, that would stop us from driving here.

There are times when it's dangerous to drive during a storm and the local media does an excellent job of reporting, but as most have said, by the time the precipitation ends, the crews have been out several times.
Your DP may be able to get to his tennis game, but he should check to see if when he gets there the facility will be open - many places close during a snow storm. Perhaps you should add to your criteria a basement big enough for a Ping Pong table on those days.

LOL He is a tennis fanatic but he is actually very good about not driving if conditions are bad (here that is rain) and I am also a "nudge" and would convince him not to go out in a storm. I do remember visability being worse than the actual snow.
I also remember coming home to find the mouth of the driveway closed by the town trucks LOL.
In my on-line search I haven't seen ping pong tables but I have seen lots of pool tables in game rooms in basements and family rooms over garages! Many with those three light chanderliers hanging over the table. I figured there must be a lot of time to play pool during the winter months.

the snowplow crews do an excellent job,,
snow doesnt bother me as much as sleet and freezing rain

Last night we had promised to take desert to a pot luck at my sons school. It started snowing before the kids got home and kept going. I had to pick the oldest up from an after-school thing and it was messy out but not too bad. Some of the activities at my other kids middle school were canceled but my 9th grader was insisting they wouldn't cancel at his school. I had trouble believing it (coming from southern Maryland where a snowflake causes panic) so we checked online, called the school, then rushed to make desert when we realized it was for real.
We drove through rush hour traffic, which was moving slower than normal so it took us about 40 minutes to do a drive that would take 15 minutes that time of day. I figured I wanted as much time to drive in my first real snow and we actually pulled in to the parking lit just a few minutes past the official start time.
There weren't very many cars in the parking lot and all of them were snow covered so I figured I was the only crazy one who made the drive. But in slow waves more and more people came. It was not a full house but not a bad turn out at all.
It snowed steadily the whole time but the ride home was better than the one there. I did drive a block out of my way to stick to clearer road going up hill. But we made it home safe.

good for you!! The time will come when you won't think twice about getting in the car and going, you'll just give yourself extra time to get there
