Good job if that was a first for you! After a bit it gets to be old-hat. You should never get complacent about it, but it gets to be just another part of life.

Never complacent about driving. Got smacked by a drunk driver running a red light when I was 16. Yikes. I didn't get my license until I was 20 because that made me a bit paranoid. It was funny last night. DH was away in DC and called while I was driving (speaker phone). He said You are turning around aren't you? I said Hon... we live in Maine.

Do go out and get a chance to slide around in a parking lot.
The experience is really good for your skill set.

Yep! when I read your first post about that I was right with you... I do the same thing, despite getting laughed at by some folks. But considering some of the "scrapes" I have NOT been in, thanks to knowing VERY WELL exactly what my rig will -- and won't -- do and when it is about to break loose and what happens then... I will keep it up.
It's also nice to know just exactly HOW MUCH gravel you have got to have sticking up through the ice to get traction to climb the hill... Do vehicles even HAVE the posi-track rear ends any more?? I loved that about my old Suburban...

Oh yeah. My Suburban has it both front and rear, as well as the GMC Safari both front and rear. Both are brutes when it comes to driving through the snow. They will just keep going and going.

I taught both of our sons to drive, and have had them each sliding around in frozen parking lots. In Ct this last time, one of our renter's had a daughter who was turning 16 and needed to learn to drive, I offered, and soon each week we were going out for an hour driving. When snow and ice covered everything she wanted to cancel our driving, I told her that she needed to get the feel for driving on ice and that we were going to a parking lot for her to play. She was very frightened by that idea, it took two weeks of us encouraging her, before she finally agreed to go play on ice. She did fine, and afterwards I think that she even had fun with it. She is a great driver now.

My brother just told me an hour ago that he was gonna make me do this. Thanks for backing him up. Usually I avoid listening to him. :P
