wow... look at the wharves. I'd love to see one of downtown and south end.... I can barely remember Wadsworth's on the wharf.... I do remember how much I loved walking down there and seeing the water between the cracks in the boards.

That and the way that there was no asphalt that went all the way to the shoreline (at high tide), it was all gravel coming from Water St. When I was a little kid I used to go down to the shore at low tide with "Uncle Kenny" to burn the garbage because there was no garbageman, and we would leave burlap bags of "wrinkles" there until they sent the truck to pick them up. I saw a pic in the Quoddy Tides of a few "wrinkle bags" on Wilson Beach at low tide the way we used to do in the olden days.

yes! that's right! and the burn barrels... I used to go to a babysitter in south end (actually on MenMe's road ) and there was someone there that burned every day. The smell wasn't bad at all, but was distinct in a way that to smell it again I'd know it instantly. I can't picture wrinkle bags though, I'll have to peek around for pictures of those. And speaking of smells, I remember walking past the old railroad station to my friends house on County Road, and the smell of that building and the mustard mill being soooo strong. I bet tinbender knows exactly the smell I'm thinking of! Sometimes we would be at her house, and the little rail car would pick us up behind her house and bring us in to the station. I can't remember what we used to call that little car--that was fun!
