Rockport would be my choice. It's right by Belfast and Camden but not quite as "touristy".

Hello Arzachena,

I see that you're from Belfast... What can you tell me about that area that would help me take a decision for this summer vacation... Where can I find a nice cottage with waterfront ? Thanks

You canNOT go to Maine and miss visiting the Acadia area. Anytime of year, it's stunning! We were there during last March's mud season. Didn't affect its beauty in the least. It's really breathtaking to stand at the top of the cliff looking down over the sandy beach. I've never seen anything so gorgeous!!

If you stay in Belfast, go to Dockside to eat. It's great, personal, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Ask anyone in Maine when you stop in places where you should visit, and you'll have more options offered to you than you have time for!

Thank you for the information Elcarim, I think renting a chalet around Camden or Rockport and then 3 days in a Bar Harbour Hotel to visit Acadia sound like a good option to me... What do you think?

Thanks again!

Not El, but I think that sounds like a really good plan. Acadia is so crowded "in season" that I think you'll be happier just visiting there but having a base back down around the Camden/Rockport area.

If you have time, try to take a day trip down to Pemaquid as well. It is breathtakingly beautiful. No commercialism at all, just rocks, ocean, the lighthouse and a gift shop off to the side. My very favorite place on earth to unwind and let go of all my stress.
