Farmer’s Almanac is predicting a New England east coast snowstorm on November 1. I hope not, I have to fly out for a wedding in the southwest.

On that note.... You ready? Last time there was 3"+ in October was October 22, 2009.

BTW .. Euro model has snow south more than shown here so stay tuned.

"Another Interesting fact: There is only one year on record (1881 to present) that measurable snowfall occurred at Portland on Oct 22. That is 1969, when 3.6 inches fell. Other totals from that day include 6.0 at W. Buxton (highest in ME) and 12.0 at Cannon Mt (highest in our region)."

And don't forget. Put those snow boards out (not a ruler in grass). Report your totals to NWS. Its helpful. And of course post here too.

NWS Gray discussion.

Quote:
Expecting a decent snowfall across the Maine mtns and portions
of northern NH with even potential for some accumulations across
the higher terrain above 1000ft in the foothills. For now opting
to hold off on any headlines since it will be a 24 hr event with
most of the QPF to be in the time frame of our 3rd-4th periods
Tue night into Wed. Across southern areas primarily light rain
expected as the low tracks overhead followed by downsloping on
the backside.

QPF totals were very close to RFC guidance and snowfall amounts
are figured to fall in a range of 3-7 inches across a stripe
from the western mountains of Maine into northern NH,

Here is the future radar loop per NAM12km..

Looks like rain moves in to Western Maine this afternoon.
Southern Maine tonight and starts changing to snow in the early morning hours.
Snows most of the day for much of the state, rain near coast
Clears out everywhere after 7pm tomorrow.

Might be a tricky commute tomorrow morning for those not ready for it. Actually temps in the 30s the roads should be fine!

Graphic from NWS Gray from 10hrs ago. They mention clears out early Wednesday because NWS Gray covers the western part of the state so that's true.

Black ice in Lincoln near the Lee town line resulted in a rollover. No word on injuries, but this just happened. Traffic is traveling at about 30 MPH.

Black ice in October on the Trans Maine Trail.
