i have many windows and on a sunny day, the place heats up well, the thermostat is usually on 60, tho i do have a woodstove to take the chill off, when needed.

at a young age we learned not to complain about if it was chilly..the reply would be,,,well now, looks like you need to be warmed up, lets go chop some wood...

56 for the heat pump, 76 for the AC. Just get wood stove installed (in VA). should have dry wood to last for another week or two, 4-5 cords of green wood for next season. Been told heat pump does not work well in temp below 32 degree, but it is efficient to heat the house.
Managed to split 2 large logs, it is not easy, lucky to have some dry logs under 7 inch in diameter, hope to gain more experience splting logs by next season here in VA or Maine.

I prebought $5,000.00 worth of heating oil @ $2.69/gal. with an employee discount.
This figure was averaged from the previous 3 years and only from Nov. 1st to March 1st. Of course this is heating 5,800 sq. ft. and with my dear mother's heart medication, she always has her zone cranked up.

We run the heat at 62 at night, 68 during the day, though we will sometimes boost it to 72 for a little while before showers.

Ours is set at 64 all the time. We use ceramic heaters in the rooms when we are in them. We also have a wood stove that will really take the edge off.

Having a nice size woodlot is a plus.

We do not have a mechanical thermostat.

Our radiant floor heating system is fired by a small propane water heater, when the outside temps are warmer it is enough to keep the house comfortable.

Now that it is cooler outside, our house will slowly get cooler, until someone fires up the stove.

So I guess that I am our thermostat.

Programmable here too.

6 AM it goes up to 67* and remains there throughout the day as I am home full time.

9:20 PM it drops to 52* and stays there until 6 AM the next morning.

I like to keep it around 60 F myself, but the GF constantly turns it up 75 F and I find myself wanting to open up windows to cool off it gets so dang hot. Even though we have electric heaters, the landlord pays for the heat (or it is included in the rent?), which I am finding out is a pretty nice luxury to have around these parts.
