L.L. Bean................made in Mexico???
Well, I'm suprised! Dh just told me that the jeans I ordered him from Bean for Christmas were made in Mexico. I was a little disappointed.
They are great jeans, wonderful style and fit, but how crazy is that? And here I thought they were a Maine original. I don't know why I'm surprised that even a Maine institution such as Bean is outsourcing out of country. Don't most of the big ones these days?

Bean makes alot of their stuff in Maine in a factory in Brunswick but as you found out, not everything. It's been this way for years.

That's a coincedince, I just finished sewing on a couple of buttons. And when going in the sewing box, I saw the extra yarn sample that came with one of my wonderful Woolrich sweaters that I got at their factory store in Woolrich Pennsylvania in the early 90's. And I wondered if their products were still made there or made in China like so many other things. Sadly, a web search reveals that yes, Woolrich clothes are made in China.
Kinda like "Rockport" shoes, and so many other things. So sad...

For years I have seen the Bean catalogs. I thought they were just another of the mail-order hosues.
It had not occured to me that Bean clothing was thought of as made in Maine.
I have been in the outlet in Ellsworth.
Was their products at one time made in Maine?
Or is 'Maine-ness' just their gimmick?

Pretty much all shoes, and most clothing items are made outside of the country. I worked at Bean for a few weeks over the Holiday shipping out orders. Most stuff was made in China.
Not sure if Bean was ever 100% made in Maine, but their products were originally designed for Mainers.

Due to their own experiences with cold weather, Bangladeshis are noted experts in the parka field.

L L Bean gets their stuff wherever they can, just like everyone else. Welcome to the 21st century economy!
Most Mainers don't shop at Beans for anything more than pack boots and the occasional gift.
