Are the smelts running yet in the kennebec? (home, weather)

Always seem to miss the early runs, and was hoping someone here would know.

For some reason this question brought back an old gene autry song to my mind.

I think the verb should be "dipped" rather than "caught"

the smelt shacks were on the kennebec in randolph a few days ago,,and i ran into one fella who said they are running (smelts)...

Some of my friends went smelting last night.

They caught 2.

If this weather keeps up, not only will the smelts be running, the shacks will be running too.
