Default central boilers

Does anyone in Maine use the central boilers (outdoor furnace)? If so, do you use wood or wood pellets? How good do they work for your climate? Thanks

I do not have one.

I do see them near some homes.

And I have looked at them, 'True Value' in Corinth has them for sale, and the MOFGA fair each year has a couple vendors who I have spoken with.

So there are vendors and there are folks using them.

The State of Maine is making up new rules and regulations that will apply to the use of these "central" or "wood boilers". The problem is that in some of the more populace areas of the state, people have used them in such proximity to other houses that the smoke has become a problem. In addition, some people have used these things to burn garbage and even tires by some reports.

I expect that the furnaces will increase in price as added antipollution devices and designs are mandated by regulation.

I can see some of the problem if they are being used to burn garbage, or located
right outside your neighbors windows, but I have a feeling you are right about the price going through the roof to comply with the idiocy that tends to plague Augusta.

I have seen some of them that are used as a garbage incinerator and it DOES stink downwind. That I wouldn't have a problem with regulating somewhat.

There is a guy in town (midcoast) who has one...the smoke is so heavy that sometimes it's like thick fog. He is very close to neighbors....pretty inconsiderate. I think the new rules will be great..
