I enjoyed this story too. At work we occasionally got to work on Coast Guard ships.

An all-composite version of the aluminum Mark V patrol boat is seen prior to a launching ceremony at Hodgdon Yachts in East Boothbay, Maine on Friday, Jan. 11, 2008. The designers claim the boat is built out of the best carbon-Kevlar composite. The 82-foot patrol boat looks exactly like the existing aluminum patrol boats, but it's stronger thanks to composites

U. S. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, christens the new aluminum Mark V patrol boat at a launching ceremony at Hodgdon Yachts in East Boothbay, Maine on Friday, Jan. 11, 2008. The designers claim the boat is built out of the best carbon-Kevlar composite. The 82-foot patrol boat looks exactly like the existing aluminum patrol boats, but it's stronger thanks to composites

So on 11 Jan 2008 they launched one 'all-composite version of the aluminum Mark V patrol boat', and they did another boat that the senator 'christens the new aluminum Mark V patrol boat'.
Or was that a typo?

Good catch Forrest!
That's the Bangor Deadly News for ya!
Unfortunately, newsprint is a dying business and with it, the written word as we know it. I have noticed that most newspapers have very poor editing and writing these days.
How the news editor of a daily newspaper misses such obvious mistakes is beyond me.
