Maine is a beautiful state!
Lots to love about Maine from southern Maine and the beautiful coast running from south to north. Western Maine, the foothills of the mountains, including Sugarloaf for skiing. "Downeast" the midcoast, it is all gorgeous. From central Maine it is roughly 3.5 hours to Montreal travelling in a westerly direction and 3.5 to Quebec City travelling north. So much wonderful wilderness and quiet places still blissfully undeveloped. On Embden Pond (which is really a lake) I have kayaked and been the only person on the lake many times.
