I have accepted a job working for a funeral home that serves Portland and Yarmouth. I am interested in renting a 3+ bedroom with 2+ bathrooms home within about 1/2 hour commute to these towns. I have a wife, 4 children (2 boys and 2 girls) and 3 lap size well behaved dogs. I am hoping to find a rent between $500 to $1,000 as I am just starting in this field and am at the beginning salary range. I might consider buying if it is something that I am interested in. I will be moving from Indiana. Any suggestions or help will be very much appreciated.

Hi and welcome to Maine. I would suggest you start with craigslist. There are quite a few rentals to get you started also, check the Newspaper classifieds.
craigslist: maine classifieds for jobs, apartments, personals, for sale, services, community, and events
Real Estate in MaineToday.com
I'm not in the immediate area so I can't help much. Good luck and "welcome home".

Welcome to the forum Jay42Jay and congratulations on your new position. Unfortunately I don't think you'll be able to rent a house for under $1000 in the Portland area, 3 Bedroom apartments are going for more than that.

What is the Pownal area like as far as places to rent or possibly purchase? I see that it is quite close to both Portland and Yarmouth. Thanks for your input.

Thanks for your input. I will research both the areas you suggested. We are originally from Maine and are looking forward to returning. Have a great day.

Pownal will be less than Portland or Yarmouth, particularly for sales. I don't think you'd be able to rent a house there either for under $1000.

Cool Relocating

Perhaps I need to look a little further out - would this possibly help us to find something more within our price range? As long as I do not have more than a half hour commute to either location I would be flexible as to where we live. Hopefully in a nice neighborhood.

What are the rents like around Brunswick? How far a drive is it to Portland from Bowdoinham?

Hi!

I saw this rental in Portland on craigslist: Cute 3 bedroom Cape in upscale location (broken link)
There are a few others in Portland in your range. Not sure how far some of the other rentals are from town. Good luck!
